When Your External World Looks Fine… But Your Internal World Doesn’t.

Much of the reason I wanted to become a life coach for women - particularly women navigating midlife - came from my own experience between the ages of around 40 to 50.

From the outside, my life looked good.

I imagine most people thought I was happy, doing well, ticking all the boxes and moving through life just fine.

And the truth is, I had absolutely no obvious reason not to be happy.

But internally, it was a very different story.

I carried this underlying sense of unhappiness and disconnection that I couldn’t really explain.

I struggled to find joy in things that used to make me happy, and there was this constant feeling that something just felt… not right.

Part of it was undoubtedly linked to peri-menopause, but at the time I didn’t fully understand that.

What made it even harder was that there was no major crisis or obvious reason to justify how I was feeling.

Because of that, I mostly kept it to myself.

And I know now that I’m far from alone in that experience.

The Quiet Disconnection So Many Women Feel

Often, our internal world looks vastly different from our external world.

We become so used to wearing masks, playing roles, meeting expectations, taking care of everyone else, and being who we think we’re supposed to be, that we rarely stop to ask ourselves an important question:

Is the person I’m being actually aligned with who I truly am?

Sometimes there’s a quiet disconnection between the life you’re living and the life you deeply want.

A feeling that you’ve somehow drifted away from yourself.

But it’s easy to dismiss those feelings.

You tell yourself:
“I should just be grateful.”
“This is probably just what life is now.”
“I’ve got no right to feel unhappy.”
“Other people have it worse.”

So you keep going.

You keep functioning.

You keep putting one foot in front of the other while silently ignoring that little inner voice telling you something needs to change.

Do you feel a disconnection between your internal & external worlds?

I’ve created a free resource called The Essential Life Reset Checklist to help you gently explore where you are now, what’s no longer working, and what you want to move toward next.

The Moment You Stop Ignoring That Inner Voice

But we don’t have to spend our lives simply getting by.

Your life is still your story, and you’re allowed to change the direction of it at any point.

Every day, every week, every month is an opportunity to start a fresh page and begin a new chapter - one that YOU get to write.

The important thing is this: change only happens when you’re ready.

You can receive all the advice, support and encouragement in the world, but if you’re not ready and willing to take action, nothing changes.

Deep down, most of us already know when something needs to shift.

The real question is whether we continue pushing that inner voice aside, or whether we finally start listening to it.

Change Happens Through Small Decisions

Because lasting change doesn’t happen through one giant leap.

It begins with one small decision.

One moment where you say:

“I don’t want to keep doing this the same way anymore.”

And then another small decision after that.

And another.

That’s how real change is created - through repeated small choices that eventually become new habits, new behaviours, and ultimately a new way of living.

I’m not going to pretend that process is always easy, because it’s not.

But it does get easier.

What once felt uncomfortable and unfamiliar slowly becomes your new normal.

What I’ve Learned About Creating Change

Over time, I began learning that creating change wasn’t about waiting to suddenly feel motivated or confident.

It was about learning how to keep moving forward even on the days I didn’t feel like it.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned over the years is that mood often follows action.

I know now that I’m not going to wake up every day feeling joyful, motivated and ready to take on the world.

Some days I’ll feel flat for no particular reason.

Some days life will feel hard.

Some days I’ll simply feel emotionally exhausted.

But now, I don’t allow those feelings to completely derail me.

Instead, I acknowledge how I’m feeling, accept it without judgement, and then still try to do what I can that day.

I consciously look for small moments of gratitude, beauty and perspective.

I pay attention to my self-talk, my energy, and the way I’m showing up for myself.

And often, something interesting happens:
when I start behaving the way I want to feel, my mood gradually starts to follow.

Over time, that became a habit too.

It’s Never Too Late To Make Change

Every single one of us is more capable than we realise.

Change is possible.
Growth is possible.
A different chapter is possible.

And it is never, ever too late to begin.

If you’re reading this and thinking:

“I want change - but I don’t know how to do it on my own.”

This is exactly the work I support women with.
